Questioned after the last day of Ligue 1, Habib Beye spoke about his future on the bench of Olympique de Marseille.

Thanks to its success against Stade Rennais (3-1), Sunday evening at the Vélodrome, Olympique de Marseille ensured the essential by securing qualification for the next Europa League. A positive outcome which does not, however, mask the many upheavals expected this summer on the Canebière.

From July 2, Stéphane Richard will officially take charge of OM as president. He should be accompanied by Grégory Lorenzi, tipped to become the new sporting director and lead the sporting reconstruction of the club. In this context, the future of Habib Beye remains very uncertain. Arriving on the Marseille bench last February, the former Olympian defender could already leave his position.

Asked about his situation after the last day of Ligue 1, Habib Beye preferred to focus on the collective rather than his personal future. “My future doesn’t matter today. What matters is that this club is qualified for the European Cup and can prepare for next season with this participation in the Europa League.he declared to journalists, in comments relayed by The Phocaean.

“I wanted to end on something positive”

The former Senegalese international also retained the positives from his time on the Olympian bench. “I wanted to end on something positive with the players, with the club and with the people who trusted me, notably Mr. McCourt and Medhi Benatia. This qualification for the European Cup is a satisfaction because it corresponds to the DNA of OM”added Beye.

On the After Foot set, Samuel Umtiti defended the Marseille technician. The 2018 world champion believes that Habib Beye deserves more time given the complicated context in which he arrived. “When Habib Beye arrived, it was a total quagmire. In the place of the Marseille leaders, I would give him the opportunity to restart a season with a new group, to see what that gives”confided the former Barça defender on RMC. Strong support, while discussions around the future Marseille coach are only just beginning.
