A year after failing to reach the Bundesliga (defeat against Heidenheim in the play-offs), Elversberg is this time well promoted in the German elite. By beating Münster this Sunday (3-0) on the last day of Bundesliga 2, the Saarland validated their rise and left the place of play-off to Paderborn, winner at the same time against Darmtstadt (0-2).
For Elversberg, this climb sounds like an achievement. Located along the Saar River which separates France from Germany (the commune of Spiesen-Elversberg is home to 13,000 souls), the club coached by Vincent Wagner had never reached the first German division in its history. Note that two French people are part of the squad: defender Florian Le Joncour (31), who played for Guingamp, Concarneau and Caen, and young David Mokwa Ntusu (22), trained at Sochaux and author of 6 goals in the league this season.
