It was a meeting without stakes for his club, but not for him. While Manchester United are assured of finishing third and playing in the Champions League next season, Bruno Fernandes had the ambition of equaling a historic mark in the English championship: the record for assists in a season.

He achieved this with one day remaining by providing Bryan Mbeumo with a 3-1 goal against Nottingham Forest. With now 20 assists, the Portuguese international joins Thierry Henry (2002/2003) and Kevin De Bruyne (2019/2020) among the holders of this record. He will still have one match against Brighton to try to beat him.
