The Committee on Cultural Affairs and Education has adopted an amendment which promises to make a big splash within the framework of the proposed law to reform professional sport. If this last amendment were to be validated by the National Assembly, Ligue 1 could become accessible free of charge.
The deputies of the said committee intend to impose the unencrypted broadcast of at least one match on each of the days of the championship. “ The multiplication of the number of broadcasters of different sporting competitions, and thus the multiplication of paid subscriptions, strongly distances spectators from sporting events, and encourages the development of piracy », they argue.
A special prize soon to be offered by LFP Media?
“ To allow access to these professional competitions to the greatest number of people, it would be appropriate to provide for each marketing of television exploitation rights, a prize for the unencrypted broadcast of one match per weekit is thus recommended. The broadcast of one Ligue 1 match unencrypted per weekend would undeniably contribute to the exposure of national football. »
The proposal in question is not new, coming from the report of “ the information mission on audiovisual broadcasting rights for sporting events » led from 2021 by La République en marche MP Cédric Roussel. Such a measure would of course mean the creation of a specific lot by the Professional Football League. The LFP which via its Ligue 1+ platform will present the entire championship from next season.
