Cristiano Ronaldo, the big worry

Al-Nassr faces Al-Hilal this Tuesday in what looks very much like the title match in the Saudi Pro League. Cristiano Ronaldo may be Saudi Arabian champion for the first time, but…

If you take a quick look at the French Wikipedia page, Al-Nassr is presented as “one of the most successful clubs in Saudi Arabia, with 27 titles across all competitions. » But what must tickle Cristiano Ronaldo’s pride is that the Riyadh club’s record has changed little since his arrival in the Kingdom in January 2023.

With Al-Nassr, the legendary Portuguese striker “only” won the Arab Cup for Champion Clubs in 2023. It’s not nothing, of course, but it’s not much for a player with accomplishments that match his XXL ambitions.

Yes but now, for his fourth season with Al-Nassr, Cristiano Ronaldo can finally be champion of Saudi Arabia. Everything will undoubtedly be decided this Tuesday, in what is presented as the title match in the Saudi Pro League, against Al-Hilal. On its social networks, “CR7” called on the supporters of its club to collective mobilization.

Concretely, before this match of the 33rd and penultimate day, Al-Nassr has a five-point lead over Al-Hilal, but the reigning champion has one more match to play. Mathematically, everything is still possible.

Ronaldo and Al-Nassr can be crowned… or lose very big

In the event of victory, Al-Nassr will be assured of its 10th Saudi Arabian championship title, the first since 2019. It would be the deserved reward for a season led from start to finish, or almost, in the wake of Cristiano Ronaldo (26 goals) and the excellent Joao Félix (20 goals, 12 assists).

But there is also the fear of losing everything, which was reinforced after the defeat against Al-Qadsiyah (3-1) a little over weeks ago. In the event of victory, Al-Hilal would take its destiny back into its own hands, and we know the value and experience of the team recently joined by Karim Benzema (17 goals), who won the first leg last January (3-1).

In any case, with so much at stake, and so many big names on the field (we can add ManĂ©, Brozovic, Coman, Bounou, Al-Dawsari, Milinkovic-Savic, Theo Hernandez…), this Riyadh derby promises to be spectacular.
