19 days before the Champions League final, Paris Saint-Germain is preparing to return to the European summits with a prestigious performance against Arsenal on May 30. Already winners last season, the capital club is moving forward with the ambition of retaining its title and confirming its domination on the continental scene.
If some Parisian supporters had planned to go to Budapest and others hoped to follow the meeting in a fan zone in Paris, the latter was ultimately canceled. Emmanuel Grégoire made the decision official, explaining that he had taken into account the recommendations of the authorities.
Several events planned
This decision is explained by the exceptional density of events scheduled in the capital on the same day. “I heard the reservations of the Police headquarters, I know that they are also those of the Minister of the Interior. Reason compels me to hear them”he declared on the sidelines of a press conference, in comments reported by The Parisian.
Laurent Nunez, the Minister of the Interior, was also reserved regarding the establishment of a fan zone: “That weekend, there was an almost unique concentration of events,” continued the mayor of Paris. We have 80,000 people at the Stade de France (Aya Nakamura concert), 40,000 people at La Défense Arena (rapper Damso concert), 15,000 or 16,000 at Bercy (rapper Bouss concert)… Probably, obviously, the Parc des Princes which will be open (to broadcast the final) and a match from the Stade Français to Jean-Bouin (against Bayonne, time to be determined). » In the end, the town hall prioritized safety by canceling this gathering.
