Fiorentina has finally blown. Hooked by Genoa (0-0) this Sunday during the 36th day of Serie A, the Viola still mathematically validated its continuation after a long catastrophic season. Remained relegated for almost five months, unable to move on, Paolo Vanoli’s team sank into football without idea or character, symbolized again on Sunday by a single shot on target at home. The Artemio-Franchi supporters were not mistaken: loud whistles at the final whistle and ironic chants for a team which flirted with disaster until the end.

This maintenance does not erase the numerous Florentine failures this season. Failed recruitment, sterile attack, tactical instability and permanent crisis of confidence plunged a historically ambitious club into an unimaginable fight for survival last August. The return of Stefano Pioli to the bench last summer did not have the desired effect for the Tuscan club, which had nevertheless pulled out all the stops during the summer transfer window. The essential is nevertheless done with this little consolation prize.
