In full reconstruction after several major departures, Olympique de Marseille is moving forward on a priority file behind the scenes.

Olympique de Marseille may have its future sports director. While the Marseille club is preparing to open a new cycle after the departures of Pablo Longoria, Roberto De Zerbi and soon Mehdi Benatia, the Marseille management is seriously moving forward on the track leading to Grégory Lorenzi.

According to The Teamthe 42-year-old manager is today one of the most appreciated profiles internally. His work with Stade Brestois, which he accompanied from Ligue 2 to the Champions League, had a strong impact on the Olympian decision-makers. Marseille particularly appreciates its ability to build competitive squads with limited resources.

Still according to the sports daily, several meetings have already taken place between Lorenzi and the company responsible for advising the future Marseille president Stéphane Richard, whose official arrival is planned for the beginning of July. Eager to take a step forward in his career, the current Brest sports director, who will leave his position at the end of the season, would welcome the possibility of joining a club as exposed as OM.

A verbal agreement with OGC Nice

But this issue could cause some tensions elsewhere in Ligue 1. Because before Marseille’s interest, OGC Nice seemed to be holding the rope to welcome Lorenzi. Always according to The Teama verbal agreement would even exist between the different parties, subject to the definitive maintenance of the Riviera club coached by Claude Puel.

Nothing has been signed yet, but OM is now pushing very hard to finalize this strategic file. After having formalized this Friday the departure of Lorenzi, Stade Brestois could therefore see its architect join Canebière in the coming weeks. The names of Julien Fournier and Frédéric Massara had also been circulating in recent days, but the Lorenzi track today seems to have taken a clear lead.
