In a long interview on our site, Sofiane Boufal spoke about Morocco’s historic journey at the 2022 World Cup. The 32-year-old winger, great architect of the performance of the Atlas Lions, returned to the semi-final lost to the France team and to the contentious action with Théo Hernandez at the start of the match.

“It was the 6th match I think of the competition and we made a lot of effort to get through. Physically, we were exhausted. We had gone to the end, he lacked lucidity even if against France we had a very good match and we knew how to compete. To get to the final, he lacked this freshness and we couldn’t do it anymore. The action with Théo Hernandez is a little confusing. At that moment there is contact and it touches me. But at that moment, I was so focused on the match and the desire to win that when there was this action, I didn’t even have the feeling that it was him who made the mistake. I even thought it was me and I moved back. We did not have this defect which could have meant that perhaps we would have put pressure on the referee to go and see the VAR. But with all the cameras, it wouldn’t have changed anything. But there is the action that we see on TV and what we see on the pitch. It’s going too fast, it’s happening in just one second.”
