Legend of African football, former star scorer of Ivory Coast, Didier Drogba will occupy a new role for the next CAN in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

Failing to be president of the Ivory Coast football federation, since he lost the April 2022 election with 16% of the votes in the first round, Didier Drogba continues to work almost everywhere in Africa. The former star captain of the Elephants did not miss the CAN in Morocco last winter and will occupy a new role for the 2027 African Cup of Nations in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda (from June 19 to July 17, 2027, as was recently made official).

The former OM and Chelsea scorer, unfortunate finalist of the CAN twice (in 2006 against Egypt and in 2012 against Zambia, each time on penalties), was received in Tanzania on Wednesday by the President of the Republic Samia Suluhu Hassan. Drogba has been appointed the country’s special ambassador for the next CAN and will support the promotion of the CAF tournament internationally, in particular by increasing Tanzania’s visibility in terms of tourism.

Drogba promising from Tanzania

Tanzania is the most touristic country in East Africa thanks to its national parks (the Serengeti National Park is known for its annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebras), Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, located on the edge of Kenya (and close to Nairobi) as well as the famous paradise archipelago of Zanzibar, in the Indian Ocean.

After a CAN 2025 in an extremely well prepared Morocco, with several magnificent stadiums (especially the Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat, with 69,500 seats, where the Atlas Lions played all their matches), Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda hope to experience such success. Each country has its own stadium with 60,000 seats, in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, in Nairobi and in Kampala, the Ugandan capital. Certainly with the presence of Drogba during the competition.
