Terrible news for Chelsea stars!

It’s another disappointing season that will end for Chelsea. The Blues, after a summer transfer window during which they spent more than 300 million euros, had a string of poor results, which cost Enzo Maresca, then Liam Rosenior, the head. A season to forget, clearly, and on the banks of the Thames, we are already focusing on the next year.

Except that this summer, Londoners risk having to make their transfer window with a purchasing power much lower than that to which they were accustomed. Due to the absence of income linked to the Champions League, but not only that, since the recent financial results of the residents of Stamford Bridge were catastrophic, with a negative result of 328 million euros in losses before taxes, a negative “record” in the history of English football. All this in a context where the Premier League’s financial fair play is stricter than ever.

Significantly reduced salaries

The Telegraph still indicates that the Blues had protected themselves a little in view of a possible disaster scenario. Indeed, the leaders of the Blues had included clauses in the players’ contracts stipulating that in the event of absence of the Champions League, their salaries would be considerably reduced. Londoners are used to offering salaries that are not necessarily huge, but compensated with juicy bonuses and other bonuses, to which certain players will therefore not be entitled. And these would be considerable losses. The names of Reece James and Moisés Caicedo, who recently signed new contracts, are cited as potential victims.

A strategy which will limit the financial damage for Chelsea, but which could also have negative consequences and therefore turn against management. It’s a safe bet that many players will not appreciate seeing their fees reduced, and other clubs could benefit. Especially since many players like Enzo Fernandez, Marc Cucurella, Cole Palmer, Alejandro Garnacho and João Pedro are coveted. Case(s) to be continued…
