Aymeric Laporte seems happy to have returned to Europe. Indeed, the Athletic Club player returned to Spain in 2025, after a transfer which was uncertain for a long time and almost failed on several occasions from Al-Nassr. Thanks to his status as a leading defender with La Roja, he has now established himself as a leader in the selection. The 31-year-old also took the time to discuss his current situation as well as his time in Saudi Arabia in an interview with A.S..

“The economic aspect was not the most important thing when making decisions. As you said well, I have had other teams that paid more, but I am at a point in my life where obviously the economy is important, but also the personnel and in this case, as I said before, Athletic has always been present. I thanked him forever for everything he has done for me since I was a child. We were able to reach an agreement and that’s what happened” the Basque told the newspaper. Then, he went on to explain the process of his decision. “I headed to Saudi Arabia, and as soon as I had the opportunity to go back to Europe, I did it, for myself, for my family, for everything. Because I also promised it to my father (who died in 2025) months earlier”.
