A former executive of the French team, retired from the selection for several years, does not rule out a return for the World Cup.

The World Cup is approaching and, for what will be Didier Deschamps’ last tournament at the head of the Blues, speculation is increasing around the possible returns of former internationals like Antoine Griezmann or Olivier Giroud. But another hypothesis, much more unexpected, resurfaces: that of a comeback from Hugo Lloris.

At 39, the goalkeeper continues his career with Los Angeles FC. On January 10, 2023, having just returned from the World Cup in Qatar, the former captain of the Blues had nevertheless recorded the end of his international adventure in The Team. Record holder for selections (145 caps), he then closed a major chapter, marked by the 2018 World Cup, the 2021 Nations League, as well as two lost finals at Euro 2016 and the 2022 World Cup.

“He wouldn’t say no to a summons”

But according to The Teamthe door would not be completely closed. Hugo Lloris would be ready to respond favorably if Didier Deschamps were to ask him, without trying to force a return. “Out of modesty and respect for the guardians in place, he will never campaign to be there, he does not want to be the one who steals the place. But obviously he wouldn’t say no to a call-up to the French team. Once again, it is not a question of him putting himself forward or using leverage to succeed in being called”those close to the doorman told the daily.

An eventuality which would not upset the place of Mike Maignan, installed as number 1. On the other hand, it could reshuffle the cards behind him, in particular for Lucas Chevalier, whose progress among the Blues could be slowed down. It now remains to be seen whether this scenario will find an echo in Deschamps’ final choices for his final tournament. Response on May 14.
