In the rise in tension before the Champions League semi-final between PSG and Bayern at the Parc des Princes, Vincent Kompany insisted at length on the progress of Michael Olise, while refusing to comment on his management’s statements on his future. The Bavarian coach focused on the field and on the level displayed by his player, who he places in a trajectory still under construction at the highest level. “I have already said that I do not comment on the statements of my superiors. I can talk about Michael Olise. What Michael has achieved, the way he is playing so well – and we must not forget that this is his first Champions League semi-final and he has only been playing at the highest level for 18 months. I see from his attitude that he can and wants to continue to progress. I hope he can continue to perform at his best, even in matches like tomorrow. He has the potential to be a top player for a long time. »

At the same time, Kompany insisted on his winger’s almost obsessive approach to detail, a trait he compares to other great professionals he has known. “He is absolutely obsessed with details. He will always do things his way. I also worked with Kevin De Bruyne, and he was obsessed with details too. I see this in Michael too. He likes to joke around with his teammates, but when it comes to work, he gets on with it. He has an exemplary attitude”. Comments extended by Dayot Upamecano, who measures on a daily basis the difficulty of containing his teammate in training. “I have to defend him in training, and it’s incredibly difficult. He can do almost anything with the ball. When he has the ball he thinks he can just pass me. He works incredibly hard. He’s my neighbor. When I tell him what to do after training, he tells me he will still be working. He always wants to improve. I am happy to play with him in the national team and at Bayern”. A double reading which says a lot about Olise’s growing status in a Bayern launched towards a very high level European shock.
