On the eve of Inter’s trip to Torino, in a climate heavy with tension and suspicion, Nerazzurro president Giuseppe Marotta spoke on Sky Sports to react to the scandal currently shaking calcio. The investigation targeting Gianluca Rocchi for alleged complicity in sporting fraud, in connection with controversial arbitration appointments, placed the Milan club at the center of a media and legal storm. In this burning context, Marotta spoke seriously, seeking to defend the integrity of his institution while recognizing the need to shed light on an affair which further weakens the image of Italian football.
“We learn everything from the press, and everything is surprising. None of our referees are popular or unpopular; we acted with the utmost integrity. This is important and should reassure everyone. Last year, we suffered unfavorable decisions, even confirmed by the refereeing bodies, such as during the Inter-Roma match, where we did not obtain a penalty. I am convinced that Inter are innocent and will remain so. The conversation before the Italian Cup derby? I am surprised and I do not wish to dwell on the subject. What I can say is that I want to reassure the supporters. Repercussions? We remain calm and confident in our integrity“.
