Together, they shook the defenses of the French championship, and even the European one. Associated with Bordeaux for two seasons (between 2008 and 2010), Yoann Gourcuff and Marouane Chamakh were among the great architects of the French championship title won by the Girondins in 2009. The following year, their association notably allowed the scapular club to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Asked about his understanding on the field with the former French international, Chamakh took advantage of the moment to pay him a very nice tribute. “ With Yoann we got along really well on the pitch. Chamakh then spoke about the man, whom he appreciates and for whom he has great respect. “ Humans are just exceptional, mostly misunderstood. When you don’t speak, when you don’t express yourself, people often speak for you. I just knew a great person… He went to Lyon, he had injuries, and it hurts when you isolate yourself… He’s just a great person off the field and on the field, he had nothing to prove.”he recalled.

And to add: “ The fact of being a little introverted, not talking too much, not saying what he thinks, people spoke a lot for him, and that’s it… Today, he put himself a little outside of football, that’s what he was looking for. Since ending his professional football career in 2019, Yoann Gourcuff has shown great discretion. So much so that his rare public appearances are a small event. As was the case recently at a gala match organized to celebrate the 100th anniversary of FC Lorient, where he trained until he was 14.
