Olympique de Marseille has been going through a real ordeal for several weeks. New illustration last weekend with the setback conceded on the Lorient pitch (2-0). A culpable defeat which sanctioned a non-match for Habib Beye’s troops and which provoked the anger of Medhi Benatia.
The situation is becoming critical for OM. Because if Lille, against Nice (0-0), and AS Monaco, against Auxerre (2-2), did not take advantage of the situation, on Saturday, Rennes and Olympique Lyonnais, by winning in Strasbourg and at PSG, achieved the great deal of the weekend. With only four days to go, the Ciel et Blanc are now in 6th placee place in the ranking.
The race to qualify for the Champions League nonetheless remains undecided. OM are only two points behind third place, directly qualifying.
OM only 6th in the end?
However, if the Marseillais benefit from an overall favorable schedule with two trips to Nantes and Le Havre and the receptions of Nice and, finally, of Rennes, the statisticians are not very optimistic with the Marseille club.
According to Opta, OM should indeed finish in 6the place in the standings while OL, who have regained color at the best time, should take third place, just ahead of Lille, who should therefore secure their ticket for the Champions League play-offs. While Rennes should finish 5e and validate its qualification for the Europa League, AS Monaco will remain at the dock by finishing 7e. Unless Lens wins the Coupe de France, which would give it qualification for the Europa League.
As for the title race, it seems decided. PSG, which is four points ahead of RC Lens with five matches still to play for both teams, has a 96.3% chance of winning a new French champion title.
