It’s an understatement to say that the elimination from the Champions League against PSG (5-2, 0-3) hurt a lot. Chelsea’s season is getting more and more pitiful. After defeats against Newcastle (0-1), Everton (3-0) and both Manchester (0-3 against the Cytizens and 0-1 against the Red Devils last Saturday), Liam Rosenior’s team suffered a fifth loss in a row during a trip to Brighton (3-0) on Tuesday for the 34th day of the Premier League.
Chelsea have not only lost five matches in a row but have not scored a single goal during this scandalous series. Which is a first in 114 years, the London formation being 121 years old.
The new disillusionment is all the more catastrophic as Brighton takes 6e place in the standings at the expense of Chelsea, two points ahead. The club world champions, whose season was turned upside down with the ousting of their coach Enzo Maresca, are completely lost in the race for qualification in C1.
Brighton too strong for Chelsea…
The worst part of all this is that the Seagulls fully deserved their victory by dominating the match from the start. Turkish full-back Ferdi Kadioglu opened the scoring (3rd) and Jack Hinshelwood doubled the lead at the start of the second half on a counter-attack led by Georginio Rutter (56th). Entering the game, Danny Welbeck took a cross to bring the score to 3-0 (90th + 1).
In the absence of Cole Palmer, the former Strasbourg coach aligned Enzo Fernandez as 10 and Marc Cucurella as left winger. Liam Delap and Pedro Neto were sluggish, while Alejandro Garnacho, who came on at half-time in place of Wesley Fofana, missed a great opportunity to reignite the suspense 15 minutes from the end (76th).
