He is undoubtedly one of the very good picks of the last summer transfer window. Shaped and trained at New Stars FC, a Burkinabé academy led by Ahmed Touma, one of its representatives, Arsène Kouassi discovered high-level football on the Isle of Beauty at the Stade François Coty. He revealed himself last season during his first professional career. With 24 Ligue 2 matches on the clock and 3 assists in the AC Ajaccio jersey, the native of Cocody (Ivory Coast) quickly caught the eye of recruiters.

If RC Lens was very close to completing his signing last summer, a change of management at the Sang et Or derailed the deal. A godsend for FC Lorient, who won the game for a paltry amount of €1.2 million, offering the player a contract until June 2029. A strong sporting choice for Kouassi, who was thus able to follow his mentor, coach Olivier Pantaloni. Those who thought that the level of Ligue 1 would be too high were seriously mistaken.

An express adaptation to Ligue 1 that leaves a lasting impression

The 22-year-old Burkinabé did not need any adaptation period. An explosive left-back, endowed with great physical qualities and a formidable centering quality, he already displays superior statistics to his Corsican season: 2 goals and 6 assists in 26 championship matches. Skillful on free kicks (as he proved by scoring against FC Nantes), his performances earned him the honorary title of Ligue 1 “Nugget of the Month” in January.

An impressive dynamic that he was able to transpose onto the international scene. During the recent African Cup of Nations, Kouassi played all 4 matches with Burkina Faso, scoring a goal and being Man of the Match against Sudan. Obviously, such a modern profile (power, speed, projection) attracts attention as the summer transfer window approaches.

Sacred courtiers are already knocking at the gate

According to our information, Nottingham Forest had already drawn up an offer of 7 million euros this winter, rejected by the Lorient management. Today, as the summer transfer window approaches, inquiries are increasing. The Bundesliga is particularly attentive: Bayer Leverkusen, Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart are following its development very closely. Italy is not left out, with strong interest from AS Roma and Genoa. Finally, the threat could also come from France via multi-ownership, since RC Strasbourg, supported by the BlueCo consortium (Chelsea), has also made inquiries.

If the FCL can smile financially (the player is valued at 10 million euros by Transfermarkt and guarantees a juicy capital gain), the internal situation could precipitate this departure. The Breton club is indeed going through a period of strong instability. The departure of Olivier Pantaloni completely reshuffles the cards for Kouassi, who loses his main reference point on the sidelines. Added to this is a major restructuring of the organization chart, with the highly anticipated arrival of Demba Ba (Dunkirk) as sports director.

Contacted by us, the player’s entourage through Ahmed Touma, his agent, did not close the door to a transfer in the coming months, while showing respect towards the Lorient institution: “We chose to sign with Lorient because it is an excellent springboard, a club where a player can reach a level through work and which does not block the progression of his elements. Today, Arsène is 100% focused on the end of the season. Once the exercise is complete, we will evaluate all options. If an ambitious project arises and all parties agree on it, it will merit real consideration. By force of circumstances, when we work well, we aspire to aim higher. But we will take stock calmly, in good understanding with management, at the end of the season. » The message got through. Arsène Kouassi may indeed be one of the big attractions of the summer transfer window.
