No longer called up for the French team for a year, Jonathan Clauss has further seen his status weaken in recent months with the rise in power of Malo Gusto and Pierre Kalulu. The first has firmly established himself as the understudy of Jules Koundé, while the Turinese asserts himself today as the third solution of Didier Deschamps. The two players trained at OL were also called up by the French coach this Thursday, while Jules Koundé is currently injured.

Present at a press conference with Nice a little later in the afternoon, Jonathan Clauss declared that he still believed in his chances of going to the World Cup. “If I still believe in it? Yes, of course, you always have to believe it. I will believe it until the last list. It doesn’t matter, it’s up to me to continue what I’ve been doing lately and push a little harder. And then, we will hope for this summer. If the French international has turned his head around in recent weeks, he will have to redouble his efforts to hope to be part of the adventure, especially since Warren Zaire-Emery also has the ability to play in his right-back position from now on.
