The program is busy for Algerian football and it could be crowned with success. Riyad Mahrez’s Greens are among the big favorites for the African Cup of Nations organized in Morocco (December 21, 2025-January 18, 2026), before competing in the 2026 World Cup in North America with a little ambition. There are many talents. Before these festivities, Algeria will put its title on the line at the Fifa Arab Cup 2025 organized in Qatar, four years after beating Tunisia in the final (2-0, ap).
Madjid Bougherra is still at the helm of the A’ selection and has revealed his list of 23 players for this Arab Cup which welcomes 16 teams (divided into four groups), made up of players playing in Africa and Asia.
The big absentee is Ryad Boudebouz, now number 10 of JS Kabylie, at 35 years old. The former Sochalien and Stéphanois will not play one last competition with Algeria (unless there is a surprise call-up for the World Cup).
Islam Slimani, the der with Algeria
The Fennecs’ offensive sector is particularly loaded, with the experienced Yacine Brahimi (Al Gharafa, Qatar), Yassine Benzia (Al Fayha, Saudi Arabia), Rafik Guitane (Estoril, Portugal) and Adam Ounas (Al Sailuya, Qatar). These are former Bleuets trained in France: Brahimi in Rennes, Benzia at OL, Ounas in Bordeaux and Guitane in Le Havre. Victor Lekhal, the former HAC defensive midfielder, is also in the group. For the center forward position, we find Redouane Berkane (Al-Wakrah, Qatar) and Islam Slimani (Cluj, Romania) for his last stand at 37 years old. Sofiane Bayazid, scorer for this Algeria A’ during the last Chan, goes by the wayside.
In group D of this Arab Cup 2025, the Algerians will face Sudan or Lebanon on December 3, then Bahrain or Djibouti three days later, before a shock against Iraq on the 9th. The group stage culminates in the quarter-finals. The final is scheduled for December 18 at Lusail Stadium.
