Thierry Henry was named the new coach of the France Espoirs team on Monday.

Meeting this Monday at the headquarters of the French Football Federation, the Comex has decided. In competition with Julien Stéphan, Jocelyn Gourvennec and Sabri Lamouchi, Thierry Henry – who benefited from the barely veiled support of the Ministry of Sports – was unsurprisingly appointed new coach of the France Espoirs team, replacing Sylvain Ripoll.

The former icon of Arsenal and the Blues was the favorite of the new executives of the FFF, namely its president Philippe Diallo, the head of selections within the Comex Marc Keller and the national technical director Hubert Fournier. Despite mixed experiences as a coach on the benches of Monaco (2018-2019) and the Montreal Impact (2020), the person concerned enjoys an international aura which has been able to supplant his counterparts mentioned above.

At the Olympics with Mbappé

Linked to the federation until Euro 2025, Thierry Henry, who renounces the transition to his media obligations – towards Amazon in particular – will lead his first match at the controls of the Bleuets on September 7, as part of a friendly meeting scheduled for Nancy against Denmark. Then will come four days later a qualifying match for the next Euro in Slovenia. The former tricolor striker will also and above all be the coach of the French selection at the next Paris Olympics. With no doubt under his command a certain Kylian Mbappé.
