A week after a disappointing start in La Liga on the lawn of Getafe following a match under high tension (0-0), FC Barcelona received Cadiz to really start their season at the Lluis-Companys Olympic Stadium while the Camp Nou is still under construction. From the first minutes of this meeting, the Catalans took the game on their own by attacking the opposing defense. While Lamine Yamal provoked on the right side and eliminated his direct opponent in the box of Cadiz, Javi Hernandez jostled him quite clearly but the referee decided not to whistle a penalty in favor of the Barcelonans.

About ten minutes later, Ilkay Gundogan took on a dangerous free kick which was extended by Andreas Christensen in the direction of Lamine Yamal. The latter crossed for Pedri whose header on target arrived directly at Jeremias Ledesma. Bis repeated in stride for Frenkie De Jong who also found the visitors goalkeeper on a header after a cross from Lewandowski. Half an hour into the game, Lamine Yamal, in great shape, intercepted a good ball before rolling up a deflected shot by a superb save from Ledesma, who also did it again shortly after against Jules Koundé after a cross from Pedri to keep his clean sheets.

Pedri and Ferran Torres save Barca

Just before half-time, Alex Balde missed Roger Marti and the Cadiz player took the opportunity to put Marc-André Ter Stegen to work. Returning from the locker room, Lamine Yamal, again him, chained control then shot after a cross from Ilkay Gundogan but the young Catalan player once again fell on a very tall Jeremias Ledesma. While Oriol Romeu was blocked in extremis, the visitors operated on the counter and proved dangerous through Rubén Alcaraz who narrowly missed the target. A few minutes later, Gavi tried a lobbed header which ended its race on the crossbar of Ledesma, beaten.

At the end of the match, while Ez Abde made the visitors’ goalkeeper shine once again, Pedri finally found the net after a good combination from the Barcelonans. In added time, Fati thought he would score the goal for the break but the referee signaled an offside position but it was only a postponement since Ferran Torres deceived Jeremias Ledesma for the second time in this match despite a superb performance from his go. Thanks to this victory snatched by forceps, FC Barcelona finally launches its season with this first victory at home. Xavi’s men will meet Villarreal on the next day.
