Liverpool ends its black streak by winning against Aston Villa in the Premier League.

This Saturday evening, Liverpool hosted Aston Villa for the 10th day of the Premier League. For Arne Slot’s men, this meeting represented a great opportunity to end the crisis and a series of four consecutive defeats in the league. The Villans, on the other hand, remained on four successes in the English elite.

Despite starting the match in their favor, the Reds only opened the scoring at the very end of the first half. On a bad pass from Emiliano Martínez intended for Pau Torres, Mohamed Salah finished with his right foot into an empty goal (1-0, 45’+1). Two minutes earlier, Hugo Ekitiké could have been the first to score, heading in a cross from Dominik Szoboszlai. But the French striker was ultimately flagged offside.

The Reds regain confidence

Back on the pitch, the Anfield residents took the break shortly before the hour mark. Ryan Gravenberch fired a shot from the edge of the area, deflected by Pau Torres, who beat Martínez (2-0, 58th). Thanks to this success, Liverpool temporarily returns to third place, tied with Bournemouth, second, and seven lengths behind Arsenal, leader. The Mersey club is regaining a little confidence before its shock against Real Madrid next Tuesday, in the Champions League. Aston Villa, on the other hand, sinks into the soft underbelly and goes down to 11th place, before facing Maccabi Tel Aviv on Thursday in the Europa League.
