Before reaching the summit in 2025, Paris Saint-Germain experienced its share of disappointments. Ups and downs followed one another in the Champions League, like several recruits who never justified their transfer to the capital club, Grzegorz Krychowiak being one of them.
The ex-Polish international left Sevilla FC for PSG in the summer of 2016, against a check for 30 million euros. The French champion, in search of a number six, had bet on the defensive midfielder trained at the Girondins de Bordeaux.
“I accept my career as it was”
But the alchemy never worked for Gryfice's child. And the latter had a series of loans to West Bromwich Albion and Lokomotiv Moscow for two seasons before leaving France definitively for the Russian club in July 2019, totaling only 19 matches in Parisian colors. Krychowiak then continued his adventure in the Premier-Liga with FK Krasnodar (2021-22), then, in March 2023, he joined Greece for a six-month loan to AEK Athens. The following season, he was loaned to Al-Shabab Football Club in Saudi Arabia, a final challenge for the man who announced his retirement from sports this Monday on social networks.
“ The time has come to take on new challenges. Football shaped me not only as a player but above all as a man. I am an accomplished footballer, I have no regrets and I wouldn't change anything. I accept my career as it was: with moments full of joy and success, but also with difficult moments that taught me a lot. I wholeheartedly thank the supporters who have accompanied me through good times and bad, to all the footballers with whom I have had the honor of sharing the pitch and to all the people who have supported me along the way. Thank you to my loving family and wife – without you none of this would make sense. Football is worth playing », wrote Krychowiak sur Instagram.
