A reunion that is far from idyllic. Returning to his first team last January, Neymar does not seem to be having the experience he wanted. With only 20 matches played, for six goals and three assists, the Brazilian is light years away from his former level.

The fault, in part, is a succession of injuries which have continued to bother the former Parisian. Still injured in the thigh since mid-September, Ney continues his third period of absence since January and does not really play the role of savior of a team struggling in Brazil. The Sao Paulo-based club is in 16th place in the domestic championship, with a single point lead (32) over the four relegators.

Neymar wants to stay, Santos delays

A situation which is enough to sow doubt in the heads of Brazilian leaders. According to O Globoa contract extension would not really be the priority of Santos Futebol Clube, given a struggling sporting situation. Discussions around a contract extension have stalled between the two parties. A hard blow for the Neymar clan, who still hope to continue the adventure with the Peixe until the 2026 World Cup. With the 33-year-old player at the end of his contract next December, the situation is urgent.
