Any news from Keylor Navas? The Costa Rican goalkeeper only left PSG in May 2024, after a loan at Nottingham Forest, and made his return to South America playing for Newell's Old Boys in early 2025. His adventure in Argentina was short-lived due to a clash with his coach and, at 38, he signed for Pumas, the big Mexican club based in the country's capital. He will not be too disoriented if he plays in the 2026 World Cup organized in the three North American countries.
Keylor Navas is a Costa Rican legend since, not content with having been one of the best goalkeepers in the world at one time, he led his team to four World Cups in a row, including a memorable quarter-final in 2014 (against the Netherlands). The Ticos are not in a very good position to qualify for World Cup 26 in their qualifying group.
The Concacaf zone (North, Central America and the Caribbean) has a fairly catastrophic format with a third round with three groups of four teams for a single qualification per group (the best two will then compete in the intercontinental play-off in March 2026). Costa Rica missed out a bit by stringing together three draws before beating Nicaragua (4-1), Monday evening in San José, thanks in particular to a double from Alonso Martinez, New York City striker.
Keylor Navas, final destination
Second in Group C, Keylor Navas and his teammates will have to perform flawlessly during the last two days next month, dismissing Haiti, third with one point less, before beating Honduras at home. The Honduran leaders, winners of the Haitians on Monday, will resume against Nicaragua on November 14.
Keylor Navas will be 39 years old (he will celebrate on December 15) during the next World Cup. The superb career could end on his continent, he the triple winner of the Champions League with Zinédine Zidane's Real Madrid (2016, 2017 and 2018) and the unfortunate finalist of the C1 with PSG in 2020.
PSG goalkeeper from 2019 to 2024.
