This Friday, October 10, Germany hosted Luxembourg for a qualifying match for the 2026 World Cup. After their defeat against Slovakia in September (2-0) and their victory against Northern Ireland (3-1), Julian Nagelsmann's men confirmed their good form, despite the absence of several injured executives: Niclas Füllkrug, Leroy Sané, Antonio Rüdiger, Kai Havertz, Jamal Musiala and Marc-André ter Stegen.
Florian Wirtz, starter on the left wing, and his teammates quickly set their pace. From the 3rd minute, a goal from Nick Woltemade was canceled after intervention by the VAR, but Germany did not let themselves be discouraged. David Raum finally opened the scoring with a free kick, his left-footed shot passing close to the right post, giving the locals the advantage (12′).
Luxembourg made the task more complicated with a penalty conceded by Dirk Carlson, who also received a red card. Joshua Kimmich converted it perfectly, making it 2-0 at halftime. Returning from the locker room, Serge Gnabry increased the score with a right-footed strike, before Joshua Kimmich added a fourth goal to seal the German victory. The Mannschaft therefore won 4-0 against a Luxembourg which has not won since March, with a record of four defeats and a draw since that date.
Belgium is blocking
Further north, Belgium also hosted North Macedonia for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. After their two demonstrations during the last international break against Liechtenstein (6-0) and Kazakhstan (6-0), the Red Devils failed to confirm their domination against the opponent of the day. As in the away match (1-1), the Belgians were held in check by a score of 0-0.
Deprived of the injured Romelu Lukaku, Rudi Garcia's men multiplied the opportunities, without managing to make them come true. The frustration increased in added time, where no decisive opportunity came to unlock the score. This draw allows North Macedonia to retain the lead of the group, while Belgium will have to be more effective during their next trip to Wales.
