Today he is one of the most divisive figures in the French media landscape. But before becoming the star columnist of CNews, Pascal Praud had another life, that of a sports journalist at TF1. An adventure which ended abruptly, as he himself recounted in a long interview with The Magazine Team.

Fired like a dirty person: Pascal Praud reveals his truths on TF1

The story dates back to 2003. Thierry Gilardi takes the reins of Téléfoot, and for Pascal Praud, the ax falls. “Thierry Gilardi arrives, I was fired from Téléfoot in December 2003”he says bluntly. Put on a
“siding road”he continues to cover major competitions for television news, but his heart is no longer in it. ” I'm bored“, he confides.

This sidelining, which he experienced as a real humiliation, is the starting point of his reconversion. This is what pushed him to accept the position of general manager at FC Nantes a few years later, an experience that he himself described as disastrous.
“In Nantes, I was not good, I knew it”,
he admits with rare lucidity.

A departure negotiated at a high price

But before leaving TF1, Praud was able to negotiate his exit. “I will only leave if you give me a check,” he told the director of the channel at the time, Nonce Paolini. A franchise that paid off. “I actually left with a big check, since I had twenty years in the company. » A way to leave with your head held high, despite the injury.

This anecdote says a lot about the character. Already at the time, Pascal Praud had this sense of formula and this audacity which are his trademark today. Fired from the flagship French football show, he was able to bounce back and reinvent himself, becoming one of the most influential presenters in the country. A singular trajectory, marked by failures and brilliance, which forged the man he is today.
