The trend is far from being favorable to French football in the UEFA index.
The elimination of OM from the 3e preliminary round of the Champions League has done a lot of damage to French football. And for good reason. For ten days the Netherlands have stolen fifth place in the UEFA nations ranking from France; and the gap widened with the early failure of the Olympians, thus donated to the Europa League. A less generous competition than the C1 to enlarge the famous UEFA index.
On the eve of the continental play-offs, France therefore finds itself in sixth European level with a total of 50,747 points when Dutch football, fifth, displays 52,400 units. Added to this are the qualifications of the day for Twente and Alkmaar in the Conference League. Not good news again. It is therefore in the position of the hunter that the L1 clubs will have to play their European campaign this season. With one imperative: to do better than their Batavian counterparts.
4 clubs in C1, a precarious privilege
PSG and RC Lens in the Champions League; OM, Rennes and Toulouse in the Europa League; and finally Lille, play-off in the Conference League, know their mission. It is about the positioning of the French elite in the future continental chessboard. This season, the first three places in the French championship will directly qualify for the next edition of the C1 – the fourth will have access to the preliminary rounds.
