Launched in 2006, at the dawn of the World Cup, Football.fr Quickly established itself among the French media specializing in football. Since then, the site has been able to evolve and has largely diversified, especially on social networks.

Initially published by Newsweb, Football.fr was bought by Lagardère Active in December 2006. Thirteen years later, in October 2019, Reworld Media announced the acquisition of Sports.fr and football.fr to strengthen its sport pole (French Football Weekly.fr,,

Since January 2023, Thomas Pisselet has managed a drafting of a dozen experienced journalists. François Kulawik, Yannick Sagorin, Jean-Sébastien Grond, François Tesson, Guillaume Jacquot and Arnold Fortin are among the historic members of the site.
