What is the origin of Sports.fr?

Launched in September 1999, even before the team.fr, Sports.fr is the first French site devoted to sports news. Since its inception, it has experienced an important evolution while offering a complete coverage and a unique style which distinguishes it from the competition.

Initially, Sports.fr was the French Sports.com subsidiary, a British site itself derived from an American site. Independent since 2002, it is today among the five most visited sports sites in France, according to Médiamétrie, almost 25 years after its creation.

At the start published by Newsweb, Sports.fr was bought by Lagardère Active in December 2006. In October 2019, Reworld Media announced the acquisition of sports.fr and French Football Weekly to strengthen its sport pole, also grouping together

Reworld Media has 81 media brands in different fields: health (doctissimo), cuisine (Marmiton), entertainment (closer), technology (digital), automobile (auto plus), science (science & life), and obviously sport.

Who are sports journalists.fr?

Since January 2023, Thomas Pisselet has managed writing which has a dozen experienced journalists. Among them, François Kulawik, Yannick Sagorin, Jean-Sébastien Grond, François Tesson, Guillaume Jacquot and Arnold Fortin are historic pillars of the site.

They are supported by freelancers and a community manager. Together, they produce around 60 daily contents, combining expertise and passion to reach an audience mainly from Google and social networks.

What sports are covered on sports.fr?

As its name suggests, Sports.fr is mainly aimed at sports enthusiasts, while remaining accessible to the general public. All major events are followed live via articles (summaries, analyzes, interviews) and commented lives.

  • Football is the most covered discipline: Ligue 1, PSG, OM, Champions League, French team, World Cup, Euro, Liga, Premier League, Serie A, Bundesliga, Europa League.
  • Cycling (Tour de France, Giro, Vuelta), Rugby (XV of France, Six Nations, Top 14), Tennis (Roland-Garros, Wimbledon, Open d'Australia, US Open, ATP, WTA), Basketball (NBA, Euroligue, Betclic Elite), as well as self-motorcycles (F1, Rallyes WRC, Motogp) are also on the program.
  • Sports.fr also covers other less publicized sports where excellent French people, especially during the summer and winter Olympic Games: biathlon, swimming, table tennis, handball, volleyball, athletics.

Sports.fr is based on a faithful community on social networks. Facebook remains the most followed platform with nearly 750,000 subscribers, while X, Instagram and Threads combine more than 70,000 followers.
