A new position for Steven Gerrard

Considered one of the most emblematic circles of his generation, Steven Gerrard has not yet found the same success on the benches. Despite a first title noticed in Scotland with the Rangers, the former Liverpool legend has been struggling to convince since then. His express passages in Aston Villa, where he did not last a season, then in Al-etttifaq, with only 23 victories in 59 games, cooled European clubs. Free since January 2025, Gerrard could however write a new important chapter of his career in the coming weeks.

Gerrard has an attractive opportunity to revive

According to several British media, the former Reds captain is in advanced discussions to become the next Wrexham coach. The Welsh club, propelled under the spotlight by its Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney, now dreams of the Premier League after its climb to Championship. Gerrard, who remains very attached to his roots in the northwest of England, would see in this ambitious project an unique opportunity to revive, while remaining close to Liverpool.

The context could hardly be more favorable. Expectations around Wrexham remain measured, and Gerrard would benefit from a benevolent environment to relaunch his career. As explained by the former Scottish international Pat Nevin: “Wrexham is a real temptation for Steven Gerrard. External expectations are low, but it could make this project special. »» Behind the scenes, we already mention reinforced links with Liverpool, which could facilitate certain loans and exchanges of young talents.

A bet that also seduces the club

On the owners' side, the arrival of a name as prestigious as Gerrard would also constitute a major media asset. His past as a player and his international popularity would be perfectly part of Wrexham's strategy, which puts as much on his sporting project as on the expansion of his brand, in particular through the documentary series produced by Disney. The American Kevin Doyle believes that “Gerrard ticks all the boxes: charisma, experience and natural link with the United States”.

If the management of Wrexham has not yet formalized anything, the discussions seem to advance in the right direction. Gerrard, aware that this new challenge could be his last chance to win sustainably on a European bench, is thinking about the offer with seriousness. If he accepts, this return could mark a major turning point for him – and offer the Welsh club an emblematic figure to guide his ascent to the English elite.
