Liverpool puts a fortune on a barça flop

Barcelona experienced a new summer without reaching its salary ceiling and again struggled to recruit players.

If this is largely explained by the abolition of its VIP space lease of 100 million euros, this is largely due to the fact that it could not make major sales for another summer.

Many players have been mentioned for a departure, including Andreas Christensen, Ronald Araujo, Gerard Martin, Marc Casado, Fermin Lopez and Ferran Torres, but all received the same answer: “I want to stay in Barcelona”. Barcelona therefore found itself without significant income, selling for a total of 23 million euros, with the departures of Pau Victor, Pablo Torre and Alex Valle, while the club saved on the wages of Iñigo Martinez and Clement Lenglet.

Liverpool is interested in Ronald Araujo

Araujo fights for his place in Barcelona.

Liverpool is looking for a central defender for 2026. Giovanni Leoni is forfeited for the rest of the season and Ibrahima Konaté is about to leave at the end of it. They had tried to recruit Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, but the transfer failed the day of the closing of the negotiations.

According to The Daily Briefing, Araujo is a player to watch. Liverpool identified it as a potential option and estimates that it could be available for 50 to 60 million euros next summer. That said, Barcelona does not actively seek to sell it, and the Reds should first convince Araujo himself. He recently signed a new contract until 2031 and this summer clearly indicated that he wanted to stay in Barcelona.

Araujo was considered by many to be the best defender in Barça when he injured himself during the American COPA in the summer of 2024, held him away from the game for five months. On his return, he found Iñigo Martinez and Pau Cubarsi in front of him in the hierarchy, and he had trouble adapting to the high pressing of Hansi Flick.

This season, Araujo has shared his playing time with Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia, alongside Cubarsi, but even with the departure of Martinez, there is no guarantee that he will hold this season.
