Accused of hitting his girlfriend and then judged, Mason Greenwood had been dismissed by Manchester United. The charges dropped, his club is considering reinstating him and communicated on the subject on Wednesday.
Former hope of English football, and more particularly of Manchester United, Mason Greenwood saw his career come to a halt in January 2022. At the time, the young striker found himself in the eye of the storm following allegations of violence on his girlfriend. Immediately sidelined by United, the striker has not played again since his last appearance in the jersey of the Red Devils, on January 22, 2022, against West Ham (1-0). Since then, the charges against Greenwood have been dropped by the courts and he can legitimately hope to play again. Manchester United leaders discussed the subject on Wednesday.
As relayed by Dailymail, United are yet to make a decision. And this is precisely the reason for the communication of the club which wished to react to information released by The Athletic, explaining that the decision to reinstate Mason Greenwood in the group had been validated and that the latter was going to return. False, assured United this Wednesday in a press release. ” Following the dropping of charges against Mason Greenwood in February 2023, Manchester United have conducted a thorough investigation into the allegations made against him. (…) The investigative phase of our investigation is now over and we are in the final stages of making a decision on Mason’s future.”
Richard Arnold will speak
And the press release concludes: Contrary to media speculation, this decision has not yet been made and is currently the subject of intense internal deliberation. The ultimate responsibility rests with the CEO. Once made, this decision will be communicated and explained to internal and external club stakeholders. We will therefore have to wait for Richard Arnold to break his silence to find out more.
