The long-awaited shock between Olympique de Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain, initially scheduled for Sunday evening, was postponed to Monday September 22 at 8 p.m. The decision, made by the prefecture of Bouches-du-Rhône because of the large bad weather expected in the region, aims above all to guarantee the safety of players and spectators. The Professional Football League (LFP) confirmed that the meeting would be reprogrammed in accordance with its regulation.

OM quickly reacted to this announcement via an official press release. The club specifies that the tickets purchased for this Sunday remain valid for the new date. “Olympique de Marseille takes note of the decision of the prefecture of Bouches-du-Rhône to postpone the OM-PSG match, initially planned this evening, for security reasons related to weather conditions in the region”underlines the club, recalling that the security and good performance of the event remain a priority.

This postponement has raised several logistical questions, notably for spectators who planned to go to the stadium this Sunday. The ticket office nevertheless assures that all the tickets remain valid and that fans will have no additional procedures to perform to attend the meeting on Monday evening. A decision that should reassure part of the Marseille supporters impatient to live this classic.

Paris wanted to play in the afternoon

On the PSG side, the Paris delegation left Marseille to join the capital on Sunday, with a return scheduled for Monday, the same day of the match. According to information from RMC Sportthe capital's club had considered alternatives, such as a kick-off in the early afternoon to be able to return to Paris afterwards, but the solution chosen remains in accordance with the official LFP regulations.

The classic will therefore be at the heart of a busy week, coinciding with the Golden Ball ceremony where several Parisian players could be rewarded. An unusual situation which aroused the indignation of certain supporters, qualifying the postponement of “shameful”.
