A major Saudi Arabian club swoops on an Atlético Madrid star
Atlético de Madrid are hoping to sign a new defensive midfielder in the final weeks of the transfer window, although any deals are currently on hold until funds are raised to submit a sufficient offer.
Yannick Carrasco could allow Atlético to generate a large sum of money. According to Sacha Tavolieri, the Belgium international is currently in talks with Saudi club Al-Shabab, who have offered him a lucrative contract.
If an agreement between Carrasco and Al-Shabab can be found, Atlético will be more difficult to manage. However, the 29-year-old only has one year left on his contract, so the price shouldn’t be too high.
The same report states that FC Barcelona also remain an option for Carrasco. The Blaugrana were interested in signing him at the start of the summer, and they now have funds available to spend, following the sales of Ousmane Dembele and Franck Kessie.
Diego Simeone wants to retain Carrasco’s services for this season, so it’s uncertain whether he’ll leave this summer. However, Atlético de Madrid are fully aware that they need the money to sign a new midfielder.
