Malick Fofana, OL's nugget, always attracts more European courtiers and his future could quickly become a source of concern in Lyon.

Olympique Lyonnais thought it had saved time this summer while keeping Malick Fofana despite solicitations from all over Europe. But the fall barely started, the file of the young Belgian international resurfaces and promises to be one of the soap operas of winter. With a contract which runs until 2028 and a constantly increasing rating, OL knows that it has a major asset. But the list of contenders continues to lie down, fueling new concerns in the Rhône.

Tottenham and Inter on the front line for Fofana

The Spurs, already at the expense at the very end of the summer transfer window, remain determined to return to the charge in January. Inter Milan, for its part, has also written Fofana among its priority targets, even if the price requested – around € 50 million – remains an obstacle. Other English clubs, from Chelsea to Manchester United, via Liverpool, continue to follow its evolution closely. For Lyon, this direct competition between European heavyweights could quickly turn into a showdown difficult to manage.

Recruited in January 2024 for almost 19.5 million €, Fofana quickly became essential at OL. Non -indisputable holder at the start of the season, he distinguished himself by a goal and a decisive pass during the first four days. Its versatility, capable of evolving on the left and on the right, and its explosiveness make it the number one offensive weapon by Paulo Fonseca. In a workforce in reconstruction, the Belgian is perceived as the symbol of a project turned towards youth and the future.

An already decisive winter transfer window

If the club refused offers less than € 40 million this summer, the situation could evolve as the winter transfer window approaches. The DNCG closely monitors the OL accounts, and a large sale may become necessary. In this context, keeping Fofana will be a so sporty and financial challenge. The player remains focused on his performances but has never closed the door to a departure in the event of an ambitious project.

Everything suggests that the next transfer market will be crucial for the future of Fofana. If Lyon manages to resist foreign assaults, he could remain the standard of the Lyon renewal for a few months. But facing Tottenham, the Inter and the Premier League Cadors, the battle promises to be tough. One thing is certain: OL will have to fight so as not to lose too quickly the one it considers its most precious nugget.
