In an interview given to RMC Sports just before his departure on Tuesday, the 36-year-old explained his choice to head to the “land of football”. “(the goal) was to have a challenge as exciting and as thrilling as with OM. So I think in terms of passion and football I couldn’t find better than Brazil and Vasco. So I am very happy”first explained the Reunionese.

Choosing the heart over money

The player trained at FC Nantes then spoke about not joining Saudi Arabia by signing a very expensive contract there. “People who know me now know that money hasn’t been a priority for me for a long time. I think it’s good to have some, you shouldn’t spit in the soup either, but I think that’s why I was so happy here because there was this love. And that’s why I made this choice too. It’s the choice of football and not money., he confided. In a few hours, Dimitri Payet will land at Vasco de Gama airport, where a rockstar welcome should be reserved for him.
