Free since his departure from Manchester United, Christian Eriksen made an unexpected choice when his name had briefly circulated in Marseille.

Christian Eriksen, who left Manchester United this summer, had total freedom to choose his new point of fall. His name briefly circulated on the side of Olympique de Marseille, where he could have formed an attractive tandem with his compatriot Pierre-Emile Højbjerg. But the Marseille track quickly ended, the Danish player preferring to explore a completely different path.

Destination the Bundesliga for Eriksen

The 33 -year -old attacking midfielder will indeed rebound in Germany, on the side of Wolfsburg. Free of any contract, he is preparing to sign a commitment with the Bundesliga club, which has convinced him more quickly than other contenders like Bayer Leverkusen. It will be his first experience in the German championship, a new challenge for those who have already known the Premier League, Serie A and the Danish Premier League in its early days.

The transfer surprises all the more since Eriksen's career seemed to be oriented towards a gentle end, after a correct season at Manchester United. But Wolfsburg offers him a key role in an ambitious team, which wants to find the top of the Bundesliga table. His experience, his vision of the game and his quality on set kicks are major assets to supervise a relatively young workforce.

A Marseille rumor quickly dismissed

The story of Eriksen is marked by his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, followed by a heroic return with Brentford then Manchester United. His new chapter in Germany embodies continuity in this resilience which forces respect. The former playmaker of Tottenham and Inter proves once again that he refuses to be locked up by obstacles.

With this choice, Eriksen also finds an old teammate: Harry Kane, installed in Bayern Munich. A wink of fate which illustrates how much Germany becomes a refuge of stars spent by England. For OM, the track goes out, but for Wolfsburg, it is a glance: attracting a player from this caliber, free and motivated, is a great operation. Eriksen will have one last opportunity to mark Europe in his imprint.
