Two matches, two victories. The Blues perfectly launched their qualification campaign for the 2026 World Cup. Winner of Ukraine in Poland (0-2) on Friday, the French team went by hardly dominating Iceland at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday for its second match.
Despite a huge dumpling of Michael Olise then the red card received by Aurélien Tchouamed, Didier Deschamps' men took it 2-1 on the lawn of the Parc des Princes, thus seizing the first place of their group with three points ahead of their victim of the day.
These two victories have another consequence for the French team. Coupled with the defeat conceded by Argentina in front of the Ecuador, they allow it to double the Albiceleste in the FIFA classification. Third before this international window with 23 points behind the world champions and five in Spain, France therefore recovers second place.
Spain new leader in the FIFA ranking
Spain, which signed two big victories in Bulgaria (0-3) and then in Turkey (0-6), seizes its first place, which it has not occupied since 2014 and its elimination from the group stage of the World Cup in Brazil.
While England follows at the foot of the podium, Portugal continues its progression and now completes the top 5 at the expense of Brazil, beaten in Bolivia and now sixth, just in front of the Netherlands, Belgium, Croatia and Italy.
