Parisian supporters wonder: after losing blow on the blow Ousmane Dembélé and Désiré Doué, both wounded against Ukraine, can PSG go around the transfer window thanks to the Medical Joker device? The question, which has animated the debates since Friday evening, deserves precise lighting, as the rules surrounding this mechanism are complex and restrictive.
PSG in the face of the limits of the LFP regulation
The Professional Football League does not allow the recruitment of a medical joker only in well -defined cases. Among them: a serious injury of at least three months occurring during a rally with the French team. The minimum duration is a decisive criterion: it takes an unavailability of at least 90 days, validated by the federal doctor of the FFF. However, the absences announced for Dembélé (six weeks) and gifted (four weeks) are too short to meet these conditions. PSG cannot therefore activate this lever.
In addition, recruitment must concern a license player in France (Ligue 1, Ligue 2, National) or free, but having recently evolved in France. Exit therefore the possibility of turning to a foreign player unrelated to the FFF. Historically, the medical joker mainly concerned long -term injured guards. For field players, cases remain extremely rare, proof of the will of the LFP to avoid any abuse.

It can be remembered that FC Lorient recruited Jérémie Janot in 2012 after a serious injury from his titular goalkeeper, or more recently Monaco with Kassoum Ouattara to compensate for the long unavailability of Caio Henrique. These examples show that the device can work, but only in exceptional circumstances. In the case of PSG, none of the current injuries corresponds to the planned framework.
In summary, Paris will have to deal with its current workforce and wait until winter transfer window to strengthen. The club nevertheless retains the possibility of using its “single joker”, which allows a player to be recruited in France outside the transfer period, but it is not the same procedure. For the time being, the solution will therefore be internal, with the hope that the two internationals are coming back quickly.
