This is indeed what the figures revealed by the Sport Odoxa barometer survey. Only 48% of French people estimate that Kylian Mbappé deserves the captain's armband against 58% when he was appointed in March 2023. Worse still, 52% of French people judge that Didier Deschamps should remove the armband.
The reason? A popular disenchantment towards the current Real Madrid player explained by certain media outings but also by the end of his history at Paris Saint-Germain which still does not go on the side of Parisian supporters.
Kylian Mbappé remains a safe bet
If Kylian Mbappé loses popularity, he still manages to convince by his sporting performance. The supporters of the French team recognize their ability to create the difference and influence the price of matches.
The Odoxa survey reveals that 51% of those questioned indicate that the Madrid player will be one of the largest for the 2026 World Cup, eg with Ousmane Dembélé, followed by Désiré Doué (30%).
