Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico is set to be released from hospital a few months after suffering a life-threatening accident.

Almost three months ago, the caretaker was hit by a runaway horse while on a pilgrimage to Spain. The 29-year-old was taken to hospital in Sevilla by helicopter and placed in intensive care due to the severity of his injuries, including to the head.

As reported The Athletic, Rico underwent several medical operations to treat his serious injuries and head trauma. It was hoped that the Spaniard would be released from the hospital sooner but normal complications prevented him from doing so.

The former Sevilla and Fulham goalkeeper is set to continue his rehabilitation at his Sevilla home. A return to football is not a priority at this stage, but doctors have not ruled out the possibility that he could play again.
