The new Ligue 1 season started last weekend. The opportunity for LFP Media to launch its new channel, Ligue 1+. With an increased number of viewers, the broadcaster welcomes a successful start, but it is above all the sharp decrease in hacking that delights the professional football league.
For several seasons, the LFP is actively fighting against illegal streaming, a phenomenon which has long represented a threat to the clubs of Ligue 1. last season, the situation had been particularly tense with the Dazn diffuser, which pointed out the ineffectiveness of the measures taken in place. This year, things seem to have evolved in the right direction.
For the first game of the season, between Stade Rennais and Olympique de Marseille, the pirate flows were rare and often out of service. This improvement is partly linked to more accessible subscriptions but also effective legal measures. The Paris judicial court authorized the LFP on July 10 to obtain the blocking of hacking sites and IPTV services from Internet suppliers.
Reinforced measures for the future
The system could still intensify. A bill was brought to the Senate by Senators Laurent Lafon and Michel Sevin. The two men offer to block the IP addresses of pirate sites in real time.
At the same time, the league intends to rely on the severity of sanctions to dissuade the public. The offenders would express up to up to three years in prison and a fine of 300,000 euros.
