Real Madrid make a big decision for Militao

On Sunday, Real Madrid’s worst fears were confirmed: Eder Militao ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in the 2-0 win over Athletic Club.

It is the second serious knee injury suffered by a Real Madrid player this week, after Thibaut Courtois suffered a similar injury in training on Wednesday. Carlo Ancelotti will therefore be deprived of two of his most important players for the entire 2023-24 season.

While Real Madrid are in the process of signing a replacement for Courtois, who will be Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, they are unlikely to do the same with Militao, as Diario AS report. This means David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger and captain Nacho Fernandez will be Ancelotti’s only centre-backs.

Someone from Raul Gonzalez’s Castilla side may be included in the first team. However, it’s risky for Real Madrid not to land a replacement for Militao, especially considering Alaba struggled with injury issues last season.
