Eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Champions League (3-0, 1-2), being surprised by Arsenal in April (3-0 and 1-2 defeats), then struck by PSG in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup two weeks ago in New York (4-0), Real Madrid remains, by far, the number 1 in the UEFA ranking of clubs.
As a reminder, the club coefficient (the official appellation of the European body) is the addition of the points obtained in the last five seasons in the three European cuts. Real, sacred in C1 in 2022 and 2024 (respectively against Liverpool and Dortmund), has 143.5 points and easily manchester City (137.75 points) and Bayern Munich (135.25 points).
The resounding victory of Paris Saint-Germain de Luis Enrique against Inter Milan (5-0), on May 31 in Munich, did not really offer a point of points. The Parisians garnered 33.5 points last season, while the Inter pocketed 40.25 thanks to much better results in the league phase (the Nerazzurri finished 4th in the general classification with six victories when PSG won only four matches).
PSG behind five clubs
With its historic coronation, PSG has risen in 5th position in the club ranking, behind the podium previously cited and Liverpool. But at the imminent start-up of the 2025-2026 financial year, counting only the last four years, the capital's club is relegated from the sixth position. Inter, to whom we no longer count its low score of 2020-2021 (9 points), leaps in 3rd place in front of Man City. PSG loses its 24 points of the 2020-2021 season (elimination in the semi-finals by Man City).
In this little game, Chelsea is the real loser in the “live ranking” of clubs. Winners of the Champions League 2021 against the Cityzens, the Blues are no longer credited with the 33 points obtained during this 2020-2021 season and fall from the 7th to 14th place in the UEFA coefficients. Among the French, LOSC is the second best French club, in 26th place, then we find OL 42nd, OM 44th and AS Monaco 45th. All these teams are directly qualified for a European Cup and will have the opportunity to earn points for their respective coefficient.
