A journalist railed against the possible appointment of Thierry Henry as head of the France Espoirs team.

After separating from Sylvain Ripoll, the French federation is currently looking for a new coach for its youth selection. After auditioning Gourvennec, Stéphan, Montanier and Lamouchi, she now dreams of being able to hire Thierry Henry in this role.

“Henry doesn’t know how to deal with young people”

The former French international has a lot of supporters and public opinion generally welcomes the fact that a legend like Henry is in charge of Les Bleuets during the Paris Olympics. Nevertheless, “Titi” does not only have support. Some consider this choice too risky.

Anthony Clément, journalist for L’Equipe, believes that Henry will inevitably fail in this mission. “In Monaco, he was massacred. And with the young people in the team, it didn’t go very well,” he confided on the channel of his media. Indeed, during the 2018/2019 season, the second top scorer in the history of the Blues signed a catastrophic passage on the side of the Rock. He was fired after a few months in place.

Henry compared to Mancini

Should Henry be reduced to this experience alone? Yoann Riou, another journalist from L’Equipe, disagrees. He is totally in favor of his appointment as head of the Espoirs. “Thierry Henry is someone who is listened to. This man has such a way of telling football and we saw him on Amazon Prime. It would be great if he could do it with the Espoirs. He learned from Monaco. He experienced this failure and it will serve him. Just look at Roberto Mancini with Italy. He started with difficulty with the young people, before knowing the success he had.
