PSG: 65 games, but still far from the historic top 5

Sunday evening, Paris will play its 63rd and last official match of the season against Chelsea in the final of the Club World Cup. This figure testifies to a trash course: the Parisians were until the end of all the competitions started, from Ligue 1 to the Coupe de France, passing through the Champions League, the Champions Trophy and this new World Cup of Clubs. A total season, completed without the slightest structural scheme. But despite this extraordinary performance, Paris will not break the record for matches played in a season on the European continent.

An exceptional marathon, but not unprecedented

With 65 meetings, PSG equals the record of a French club – formerly established by AS Monaco – but remains at a respectable distance from the historic giants of the calendar. Arsenal, during the 1979/80 season, had played 70 games. Chelsea in 2012/13 reached 69. Leeds, Tottenham and Stoke City all exceeded 68 games thanks to repeated replays, leagues with 42 days or multiple participations in European and national competitions. At this level, Paris remains an applied student, but still far from English marathonists.

PSG can however console itself with what neither of the previous clubs has completed in the same season: winning as much. With a champions trophy, a mastered championship, a dominated champions League, a drop -down French Cup and a potential world cup to come, Paris is advancing towards an unprecedented five -time. None of the clubs that have reached or exceeded the 68 -game mark had won so many major titles. This is where the Parisian feat resides: in the density of the charts, more than in the minutes of minutes.

63 games, 5 titles? PSG does not have the record, but won everything

A calendar year to garnish for PSG

The 2024/25 season is coming to an end, but the calendar year remains busy. PSG will compete in the European Super Cup against Tottenham in August, then a new World Cup of Clubs (Old Formula) in December. Two new opportunities to enrich a record that is already legendary. And too bad if the counter does not reach the English summits: Paris can boast of having been able to combine longevity and efficiency.

In history, the figures have always fascinated. But Paris obviously prefers to leave the record for the number of games to others, as long as the trophies accumulate. 63 games, 164 goals, 5 competitions played thoroughly … and above all an unrivaled track record. For Parisians, the essential is not to have run further, but to have won everything on the way.
