As it does after each international deadline, FIFA officially updated its world ranking this Thursday. If the top 5, composed in the order of Argentina (1885.36 points), Spain (1867.09 points), France (1862.03 points), England (1813.32 points) and Brazil (1777.69 points) remains unchanged, the hierarchy has experienced some upheavals.

In the Top 10, the best operation is to be put to the credit of Portugal (1770.53 points) which, thanks to its victory against Spain in the final of the League of Nations, went from the seventh to sixth place at the expense of the Netherlands (1758,18 points). Huge blow, however, for Italy, ninth in the last score and which slides two rows with 1022.58 points.

If Belgium retains its eighth place, the Nazionale sees Germany, which nevertheless lost its two matches in the Final Four of the League of Nations against Seleçao (1-2) and the French team (0-2), and Croatia, which gave a lesson to Gibraltar (7-0) and the Czech Republic (5-1), pass it in front of 1716.98 and 1707.5. Everything except trivial.

The slow tumbles of Italy

This decline of Italians, now onzorates with 1702.58 points, is not sudden. They have been actually on a slippery slope for four years. While they were fourth in the FIFA ranking in October 2021, after their unexpected coronation at the Euro, the teammates of Gianluigi Donnarumma have been out of the top 10 for the first time since October 2020.

During the last international window, in early June, Luciano Spalletti players certainly beat Moldova (2-0), but especially received a slap from Norway (0-3), so that they are already in difficulty in their qualification group at the 2026 World Cup. Since then, the coach has changed. It is now in Gennaro Gattuso to reverse the trend.
